DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — The bearish mood stayed at the end of Wednesday’s trading session, the equity market capitalization dipped by TZS 48.39 billion (about US$22 million) to end at TZS 20,947 billion relative to a market capitalization of TZS 20,996 billion recorded at the previous trading session.
The Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange All Share index (DSEI) sagged by 5.77 points or 0.24 percent to end at 2,391.56 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index plunged by 10.54 percent or 0.23 points to end at 4,577.95 points.
From the sector viewpoint, the Banks, Finance & Investment sector index lost 0.81 percent or 25.72 points to close at 3,156.25 points. Industrial & Allied sector index declined by 0.03 percent or 1.60 points at 6,055.83 points and Commercial services sector index fell by 0.11 percent or 4.19 points to close at 3,932.32.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 75.50 million from 101,578 shares traded in 53 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 108.80 million from 92,730 shares traded in 31 deals. CRDB traded 90,116 shares traded in 20 deals and DCB Commercial Bank exchanged 490 shares in 15 deals. National Microfinance Bank registered 9,455 shares in 5 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited traded 425 in 4 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited recorded at 600 shares in 2 deals. Tanga Cement Public Limited Company traded 10 shares in 1 deal. Swissport Tanzania Limited registered 482 shares in 6 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breath ended in negative today, with four gainer and five losers. Uchumi Supermarket Limited ended at TZS 195 after gaining 2.63 percent, East African Breweries Limited added 2.09 percent to settle at TZS 5,850, Jubilee Holdings Limited added 0.57 percent to settle at TZS 8,750 and Nation Media Group advanced by 0.35 percent to settle at TZS 2,880.
On the red district, Acacia Mining Limited sagged by 3.50 percent to end at TZS 6,620 and National Microfinance Bank slumped by 1.40 percent to close at TZS 2,820. Also, Kenya Commercial Bank slacked by 1.15 percent to trade at TZS 860 and Tanzania Portland Cement Company ended at TZS 2,990 after dropping 0.33 percent. Swissport Tanzania Limited slid by 0.14 percent to trade at TZS 7,300.
